Dress Code

Union House Elementary Dress Code
Dress for success, even as a guest! Bottoms Up! No sagging pants or short shorts. Save the sleep wear for home! Tops should fully cover the chest! Our little learners are watching… Parents, please lead the way!


General Information
All clothing items and accessories may not contain vulgar, derogatory, or suggestive diagrams, pictures, slogans, or words that may be interpreted as racially, religiously, ethnically, or sexually offensive. Clothing that promotes alcohol, tobacco, or drug usage or displays weapons or violence is not allowed. Student dress may not be symbolic of threatening behavior, harassment, or discrimination. Any clothing which causes or is likely to cause a disruption within the school learning environment is not allowed.  When students are not dressed appropriately for school, the parent will be notified and asked to bring a change of clothing.

Pants, Skirts, and Shorts
  • No pants or shorts worn below the waist or purposely sagging.
  • Pants must completely cover undergarments. Underwear may not be visible above the pants waistband. Students must wear a belt if pants are loose enough to expose undergarments.
  • Dresses, skirts, shorts and skorts need to be longer than the extended tip of the longest finger with arms hanging naturally at the sides.  Holes in pants should be below the fingertips or have leggings underneath.
  • No pajama pants or other sleepwear including slippers.

Tops
  • Straps on shirts must be at least two finger-widths. “Lasagne straps not spaghetti straps.”
  • Shirts must fully cover undergarments and the chest.
  • Shirts must be long enough that the stomach is not showing when arms are extended above. No crop tops or shirts that ride up to expose the midriff while playing.

Footwear
  • Closed-toe shoes are preferred for safety. Sandals must have ankle straps.  Crocs must be worn in “sport mode” with the back strap engaged.
  • No shoes with wheels, flip-flops, slides, bedroom slippers, bare feet, socks only, or athletic cleats.  
Hats & Head Coverings
  • Hats may be worn outdoors only.
  • Hoods may be worn outdoors only.
  • Religious head coverings are welcome to be worn indoors.

Jewelry, Makeup and Nails
  • Students may wear earrings, watches, and necklaces that surround the neckline. Long chains and necklaces are not allowed.  Earrings should not extend more than one inch.
  • Jewelry or other items which could be used as a weapon are not allowed (studded belts, bracelets, or necklaces, choke chains, wallet chains, or large rings.)
  • Makeup is not allowed until middle school, including lipstick or tinted lip gloss, eyeliner or eye shadow, mascara, and false lashes.
  • Students may paint their nails, but acrylic or press-on nails are not allowed.
